    My mother and I had a policy lapse with our former homeowners insurance company and were not permitted to renew. Because we had an active claim for some floor damage from a burst hose under our bathroom sink (the probable reason we were denied renewal), every insurance agent we contacted assured us that absolutely no insurance company would cover us, not even Citizens, which ordinarily will insure (almost) anyone. One agent had, in fact, received a preliminary quote for us from Citizens, but a day later informed us that we had been rejected precisely because of the open claim. This bleak state of affairs meant the likelihood of being force-insured by our mortgage company at a rate that might well be three times that of our former insurance plan, and, in the event that the claim for the floor damage was denied (which ultimately it was), we would have to make the repairs at our own expense in order to extricate ourselves from this mess. I had completely given up hope and was preparing for the worst when I received a call from Lisandra Medina at Hooks Insurance Agency (an extremely professional and knowledgeable team!) which I had contacted earlier that afternoon. Notwithstanding the dire predictions and rejections from all of the insurance agents I’d been in touch with during that two week period (and I had tried them all), Lisandra was quite certain that she would find coverage for us. And in less than 48 hours she had secured us a policy at a very reasonable rate that was lower than our former insurer’s monthly premium. Because Lisandra acted so quickly, we never reached the ‘force-insured’ state with our mortgage company who had warned us that we would be responsible for retroactive coverage the start-date of which was to begin in a matter of days. Lisandra beat that deadline. She clearly loves her work, and loves helping people. With her remarkable intelligence, knowledge, and foresight, Lisandra is one of the best in the business. She is also a mensch.
